Straits Settlement was a group of British territories from 1826-1946 and it included few islands. Main separate commercial posts that formed its foundation were Penang (1786), Malacca (1795), Singapore (1819) and finally Labuan (1907)
Of these, Singapore was unique, because it was developed from scratch. Colony of Singapore was built by Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles on behalf of the East India Company.
